American Legion Family Service Day
I want to thank all of my American Legion Family for showing up and working incredibly hard to make our American Legion Auxiliary Family Community Service Day 2024 very successful!
Wreaths Across America
On December 16th, 2023, members of Walter Rhoades American Legion Post 111, Sons of the American Legion, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 111 placed wreaths on the graves of veterans at the Louisville Cemetery, Louisville, CO.
Memorial Day
Members of Walter Rhoades American Legion Post 111, Sons of the American Legion, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 111 conducted a ceremony at the Louisville, Colorado cemetery to honor and remember the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice and died fighting for our freedom. The ceremony included a wreath laying, recitation of the poem Flanders Fields, a three volley salute, and the playing of taps.
In Memory of Elizabeth (Betty) Biever
Elizabeth (Betty) Biever, the most senior member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 111, passed away on March 17, 2023. Betty would have celebrated her 100th birthday on June 25, 2023. She could often be found supporting the AL Auxiliary at Monday night Bingo with family and friends.
In Memory of John Madonna Jr.
John Madonna passed away with his son, Thomas J. Madonna, at his side on December 26,2022. John was born in 1918 in Louisville, Colorado, to John and Margaret Perna Madonna. A World War II veteran, he was 104 years old and the last surviving child of a family of ten brothers and sisters. Field Kitchen 111 Set to Open
Executive Board members of Walter Rhoades American Legion Post 111 have signed a lease for the building’s kitchen. Yesterday, Commander Dave Wyman and Financial Officer Michael McPheron sat down with the founders of Field Kitchen 111 LLC to sign a three year lease, bringing a new tenant to our facility and bringing back food service to the Post Lounge and Gravity Brewing.
Buddy Checks
Buddy Checks are essentially wellness checks performed on veterans. They can be done over the phone, via text or face-to-face. Regardless of the method of communication, the goal is the same: make sure veterans in your community are doing OK and help them if they need anything.
