In Memory of John Madonna Jr.

John Madonna Jr. passed away with his son, Thomas J. Madonna, at his side on December 26,2022. John was born in 1918 in Louisville, Colorado, to John and Margaret Perna Madonna. A World War II veteran, he was 104 years old and the last surviving child of a family of ten brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Lula Belle Fletcher Madonna, and his beloved daughter, Connie Irene Madonna Mondragon.

In February 1942, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following basic training he found himself in the South Pacific. He was assigned to a ship repair unit at Naval Station Tutuila in Samoa as a Machinist Mate 1st Class. In November 1945, he returned to his wife, Lula Belle Fletcher Madonna, in Louisville CO. Belle assisted in the war effort when she took a job making bullets at the Remington Arms Company, located at the current Denver Federal Center.  Belle commuted by bus daily from Louisville. Remington Arms exclusively made .30 caliber bullets (up to 6.25 million rounds daily).

John loved fly fishing in the Colorado mountains and cooking and gardening at his home in Louisville before moving to Texas. After John moved to Texas he enjoyed watching the Houston Astros and occasionally attending a game. He also continued being an avid Colorado Broncos fan. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Following his burial in the Louisville Cemetery, John's life was celebrated during a reception at Walter Rhoades American Legion Post 111.
