This Week at Walter Rhoades Post 111

Announcements, news, events, and other information about your American Legion Post.

From the Commander

The Constitution and Bylaws committee has done a great job updating the post’s guiding documents to align with and reflect changes made to our newly reformed Department’s Constitution and Bylaws. We’ll be reviewing those changes at an upcoming meeting and voting on them as a general membership. To support this effort, I am asking for maximum participation at our upcoming general membership meeting. We have well over 150 members on our books. There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn’t have 30-40 Legion members at every general membership meeting. If you are committed to ensuring this post lasts another 100 years, please make every effort to attend.

VA reverses course after putting some Veterans Crisis Line hires on hold

Editor’s Note: This story was updated on March 1 with new details from VA.

The Veterans Affairs Department is fixing a mistake that left potential new hires for its Veterans Crisis Line in limbo.

After VA sent emails earlier this week to candidates withdrawing formal job offers, a VA spokesman said these positions are exempt from the federal hiring freeze and layoffs after all, and the agency is hiring for all open mission-critical positions.

“Due to an administrative error, job offers for some Veterans Crisis Line positions that were scheduled to be filled later this month were mistakenly rescinded. This issue has been addressed and VA is in the process of reissuing these offers,” the spokesman said in an email to Federal News Network on Saturday. “VA is working with the Office of Personnel Management to ensure hiring for excepted roles during the freeze is as efficient as possible and in line with the president’s priorities.”
