Announcements, news, events, and other information about your American Legion Post.

From the Commander

A huge thanks to Josh Kuebler for temporarily filling the role of Senior Vice Commander. Josh has quickly made his presence known around the post, contributing in many ways. Most recently, he donated one of his paintings, titled “Ramadi”, which is hanging in the post today. Josh is going to take a much-needed break for a bit. Thank you Josh and Semper Fi!

Announcements

Wreath Removal: We are canceling wreath removal for today due to weather. We will advise once this event is rescheduled.

Kitchen Lease: We continue to work hard to fill the kitchen with a new tenant. We have shown the kitchen to 7 interested parties and have 4 current offers. We are finalizing the details with the preferred tenant and hope to have a soft opening in mid-February. More to follow!

Help Wanted: We are still in need of an Honor Guard Coordinator. The Honor Guard Coordinator interacts with the community and organizes honor guard support for local events. This work can be primarily done from home. The positions for Senior Vice Commander and Junior Vice Commander are also open. If you are interested in any of these positions please contact the Commander or any member of the Executive Board.

Legion Family collecting supplies for L.A. fire victims

Firefighters continue to fight wildfires in Los Angeles County, where approximately 25 people have died and thousands more have been forced to evacuate.

Winds that were fueling the blazes are dying down but dangerous conditions could return next week, the National Weather Service said.

Meanwhile, the American Legion Family is stepping up to help their family most directly impacted by the fires.

While Post 283 in Pacific Palisades remained closed as of Thursday, the post still intends to be available for the community, and updates continue to be added to the post’s online Fire Resource Hub.

That hub includes links to a zoomable map of the damage and an aerial look at some of the Palisades area, for residents who evacuated and want to see the damage to their home.

Post 43 in Hollywood has been collecting donations daily, including blankets, sheets, toiletries, hygiene products, paper towels, paper plates, cutlery, bottled water, pet food, gift cards and small appliances. They have also been feeding firefighters battling the fires.

Members of Post 519 in Palm Springs raised about $250 for the American Red Cross during the community’s weekly Village Fest and have plans to continue the fundraising efforts each Thursday.

In Imperial Beach, Post 820 collected donations including blankets, toiletries, masks, hygiene products, bottled water and first aid kits. And proceeds from last weekend’s breakfasts at the post were collected to further relief efforts.

Donate to NEF

You can also help those impacted by the fires regardless of where you live by making a tax-deductible donation to The American Legion’s National Emergency Fund (NEF.) Go to Legion.org/Emergency for more information and to make a donation.
